ESPN 1057 and Classic Hits 106.3 Night sees Abelson, Olivier, Vande Weerd, Shearn and Gossage take checker flags

An exciting night of racing thanks to ESPN 1570 of Vermillion and Classic Hits 106.3 out of Yankton brought a nice crowd for an exciting night of racing. 75 cars entered the pits as five IMCA classes took to the track with the IMCA Sprint Cars off for the night racing at the Jackson Speedway.
In the Artworks Graphics IMCA Modifieds, it was Chris Abelson getting the win with a hard-fought victory over Jim Thies and Sean Barragan. At the drop it was Harvey VandeWeerd who got the jump on the field. Meanwhile, birthday boy Jim Thies roared from the 11th starting spot to challenge up front. Point leader Jay Noteboom went up in smoke that caused him to finish 13th and lose the point lead in the division. Thies and Abelson had a fierce battle that saw Abelson come out on top and move closer to the point lead with Sean Barragan with a strong run for 2nd and Todd Boulware quietly snuck into third.
In the J&J Fitting IMCA Stock Cars, it was Zach Olivier taking the win over stout Jason Ward and Greg Taylor. Olivier, who found victory lane in 2017, was able to just slip past a handful of runners. All eyes were on Elijah Zevenbergen who came from 15th to challenge all but the top drivers to for the win.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds saw Alton, Iowa’s Conner VandeWeerd take a popular win. At the start, it was Keith Sanders showing his metal to lead the first half. A freak slide through the water by Darin Roepke saw Sanders and Roepke make contact and a yellow flag fly for the unfortunate Sanders, who has been a very strong runner all season and one to watch in the 2nd half. Roepke was able to hold second and Dudley Schroeder of Armour, South Dakota was third.
The Z98 IMCA Hobby Stocks saw Derek Husted jump to an early lead. However, it was Aaron Shearn applying constant pressure to Husted’s bumper, and the slightest slip up the track in turn four by the young driver allowed veteran Shearn to roar past on the inside and secure the win. Andy Hoffman continues to impress with a run to 3rd and Kent Hustad came from deep in the field starting 14th to finish fourth.
It was Onawa, Iowa’s Cullen Gossage picking up a popular win in the IMCA Sport Compacts. Gossage, a regular competitor for a while at Park Jefferson, had a well-deserved victory passing Max Bonine and holding off Andrew Harris to win. Bonine was second, Harris third and Auston Honeycutt finished fourth.
Park Jefferson will be dark this Saturday to allow fans to enjoy the Awesome Biker Nights event in Sioux City. Racing returns with a bang on June 23rd with a IMCA Fast Shafts Qualifier Road to the Iron Cup event for IMCA Modifieds, all other IMCA divisions and the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Models will join the card for an action-packed event. Advance tickets for only $18 can be purchased online at www.parkjeff.com, where fans can save $7 off the gate admission.
