Abelson, Olivier and Vande Weerds sweep to victory in make up features
The Park Jefferson opened its Iron Cup weekend with a test and tune with the added attraction of makeup features in the SignMasters A Modifieds, J&J Fitting Stock Cars, and Schaeffer Oil Sport Modified. Tonight will kick off the Iron Cup as and IMCA loaded program with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Also on the card are the Nebraska Modified Lites.
In the SignMasters Modifieds, it was Sioux City native Chris Abelson roaring from 10th place on the grid to take the top spot. With some drivers not able to attend with the makeup date, there was still a strong field of 16 IMCA Modifieds on hand for the feature. Abelson was able to roar from the 5th row to take top honors over “Speed” Schneiders and Harvey VendeWeerd who came from the 3rd row to put himself in a strong position for tonights round 1 of the Iron Cup.
In the J&J Fitting Stock Cars, another 5th row starter was able to win as Sioux Falls Zach Olivier was just able to eek out the top spot over Ryan Harris. Todd Gereau, capped another strong run by finishing in 6th after being in contention for the season championship all year.
The Schaeffer Oil Sport Modifieds were all Vande Weerds as Conner’s number 21 swept to the top spot over Camerson’s 2nd place finish. Vermillion’s Karl Brewer made it known he will be fighting for top honors as he rounded out the top 3 after starting in row 4. A number of drivers elected to rest their equipment to begin race preparations for tonights Iron Cup.
Tonight’s gates will open at 5pm with hot laps tentatively planned for 6:30. With driver registrations, it is important for drivers to arrive early to complete the necessary paperwork.
Adult tickets are $15, Seniors 70+ are $10 and Children 6-16 $5 with Children under 6 free. The Budweiser Clubhouse will be open for a $12 charge which can be added to any admission ticket or pit pass. For more information, go to www.parkjeff.com or call 712-267-3278.
